Kar Mun Kwang

I was born in Malaysia and immigrated to Australia with my family at the age of 3. Although I very much call Australia my home, my skin hinted that it wasn’t. Furthermore, my rather lacklustre ability to speak my mother tongue made me an outcast no matter where I went. It only seemed natural that I found my home amongst Chefs and Artists: the ultimate creative realm for societies’ odd balls and misfits. By day I would create delectable flavours and textures with the simplest of ingredients, while by night I would draw or paint well into the deep depths of night. It was like alchemy in one hand, and magic in the other.

It is through pastry and art that I learnt that a home isn’t a house and a family isn’t always blood. Home is where you can be who you are, while family loves you for who you are.
